Abstract:   (20 Views)
Background and Objectives: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancer in women. Given the crucial role of screening behaviors in early detection, identification, and modification of factors influencing these behaviors, this study aimed to investigate the effect of Protection-Motivational-Theory based educational intervention on breast cancer screening behavior among women referring to the comprehensive health services center in Rafsanjan city.

Materials and Methods: The present semi-experimental study investigated 120 women aged 30-69 years, randomly selected into test (n=60) and control groups (n=60). Data were collected using a researcher-developed questionnaire assessing demographic characteristics, awareness, and protective motivation theory constructs before and 12 weeks after intervention. The intervention group received four protective motivation theory-based educational sessions. data were analyzed using chi-square, t-tests, using the SPSS software (version 25).

Results: The results showed that the mean ages of participants in the intervention and control groups were 78.10±38.46 and 31.9±5.40 years, respectively. After the intervention, significant improvements were observed in the awareness variable (p=0.003) and some protective motivational structures (perceived sensitivity p=0.002, reward p=0.007, and self-efficacy p=0.039). In the intervention group, 51.7% of women performed mammography and 36.7% performed self-breast examination after the intervention. These rates were 16.7% and 25% in the control group, respectively.

Conclusion: It seems that the Protective Motivation Theory can be effective in promoting breast cancer screening behaviors.
