To Predict the Concern of Body Image Based on Mindfulness, Experiential Avoidance and Metacognition Beliefs in Highschool Students

Background and Objective: Body image concern is one of the challenges in adolescence and teenage period that can have serious and comprehensive damages. The puropose of this was to predict the body image concern based on mindfulness, experiential avoidance and metacognition beliefs among high school children.
Methods: The study was descriptive - correlation. The statistical population concluded all of high school students (boys and girls) in Kermanshah city in academic year 2016-2017, that among those was selected a sample with 360 people, In the end, 310 people were analyzed. The used tools were including body image concern, mindfulness, experiential avoidance and metacognition beliefs questionnaires. Pearson correlation coefficient and multivariate regression analysis was used to data analyses.
Results: The results showed that there is significance relationship between body image concern and mindfulness, experiential avoidance and metacognition beliefs (P<0.001) and these variables together can predict 32% of changes of body image concern at the level less than 0.001. By considering the subscales, the predictor variables in the regression model all predict 46% of the percentage change in body image at less than 0.001.
Conclusion: Due to the role of mindfulness, experiential avoidance and metacognition beliefs in body image concern prediction, it is suggested that advisers and therapists consider this components in their programs.
